2021 JOINT CALL on “Food Systems”

31 proposals successfully submitted for the Joint Call “Innovative solutions for resilient, climate-smart and sustainable food systems”

The scope of the call is to fund projects that facilitate the transition from current linear food systems to resilient circular systems, including optimal use of resources and less vulnerability to shocks under consideration of the interdependencies within the systems and its stakeholders.

The Joint Call of the ERA-NETs SUSFOOD2 & FOSC closed on August 16th. Overall, 31 proposals for transnational projects were successfully submitted.

The submitted proposals include collaboration of more than 195 research partners and have focused on the following call topics:

Topic 1: Innovations to improve food systems sustainability, with a focus on increasing resource efficiency and reducing waste (23 proposals)

Topic 2: Food Systems adaptation and resilience to system shocks (8 proposals)

The proposals will now be assessed for eligibility by the Call Office and the national funding bodies. Afterwards, they will be evaluated by international peer-reviewers following the criteria and procedure stated in the Call Announcement and Evaluation Guidelines. Based on the experts’ evaluation, the final selection decision by the Call Board will be announced earliest in December 2021.

The network consists of 14 funding bodies of the Joint Call Board from the ERA-NETs SUSFOOD2 (SUStainable FOOD production and consumption) and FOSC (Food Systems and Climate) from 13 countries/regions, committing around 7.85 Million EUR for transnational research.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) of the Call webinar

SUSFOOD2/FOSC joint call for research projects organised a webinar dedicated to the subject of a systems approach. This webinar included a short presentation of some tips to thinking about defining research questions in the context of a bigger picture of a “system”. Short vignettes of looking at a “system” from multiple perspectives will be shared and there will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.
